The department pioneers research collaborations with external partners to diversify the contribution that educational research can make academically, professionally and practically for individuals and communities. The work of the department strives to provide solutions to current and emerging pressure points in societies, such as economic change and social injustice, by creating networks and partnerships to support knowledge transfer between education, work and communities.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>The Department of Education, Practice and Society has an exciting research portfolio of projects.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:heading -->\n<h2 id=\"about-the-role\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">About the role<\/h2>\n<!-- \/wp:heading -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>The Department of Education, Practice &amp; Society relaunched the MA in Higher Education Studies in 2024. This interdisciplinary programme attracts students to this field of specialist study from around the world. We are looking to appoint a Lecturer with expertise in Higher Education Studies who will contribute to teaching, research and scholarship. This is an opportunity to join a large department where colleagues share an interest in higher education from diverse perspectives such as: comparative education, history, sociology, the economics of education or policy studies.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>As a member of the core programme team of the MA Higher Education Studies, the successful candidate will be responsible for curriculum development, pastoral support, teaching, learning and assessment on the MA programme. You will contribute to scholarship in any area of higher education studies such as: international and comparative education, governance, trans-national education, and student mobility, or higher education policy analysis and implementation. You will have experience of teaching successfully at higher education level, working with students from diverse contexts and cultural backgrounds. If you do not hold an HE teaching qualification or Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy, you should or be willing to gain this. You will be willing to supervise Master\u2019s dissertation students on a wide range of topics in higher education drawing on your experience in research in higher education, or working with NGOs, think tanks, third sector or related organisations. contributing to and managing higher education research projects sponsored by The Education University of Hong Kong, the Research Grants Council of Hong Kong, and other local and international research and development agencies.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>The PDF will participate in designing and implementing innovative initiatives focused on advancing higher education leadership and policy studies in Hong Kong, GBA, Greater China and the world. He\/she will work with the CHELPS co-directors on the design and implementation of summer institutes, and executive leadership programmes, as well as contribute to the delivery of a new Master of Arts programme.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>The appointee will coordinate research events on campus, such as higher education conferences, dialogue series, reading groups, seminars or webinars. He\/she will act as a managing editorial assistant for CHELPS e-journals, including Academic Praxis and Universities and Intellectuals. He\/she will support the development of electronic marketing resources and websites at CHELPS, the new Master of Arts programme and other emerging programmes.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>Applicants should have a Doctoral Degree, preferably in Higher Education or a relevant cognate discipline (e.g., sociology). They should have knowledge of requirements in international peer review and publications, and post-graduate education in organization, management, leadership, and policy studies. They should be able to conduct advanced qualitative and\/or quantitative analyses, such as regression, ANOVAs, path analysis, social network analysis, case studies, and SEM. <\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>Applicants should have excellent writing skills in English, be able to guide research assistants and student helpers in conducting quantitative and qualitative research, and be able to accomplish tasks independently and collaboratively. They should have leadership qualities, as they may be appointed to supervise a project support staff, an academic programme support staff and student helpers (if any) to ensure the smooth running of the Centre. They should have strong interpersonal communication, time management, problem-solving, organization and IT skills.
