Overview
Doctoral education emerges as a strategic resource for the knowledge society and economy. Countries are urged to reinforce their capacities for research and knowledge production, application, and dissemination and, thus, for doctoral education as a way to feed knowledge and innovation systems (Cardoso et al., 2020, p. 106). The quality of doctoral education is important for the future of higher education.
As higher education is expected to respond to emerging trends and social needs, universities have been given more responsibilities, and faculties have also been faced with many challenges to enter new areas. Doctoral education emerges as a strategic resource for the knowledge society and economy. Countries are urged to reinforce their capacities for research and knowledge production, application, and dissemination; thus, doctoral education has been seen as an important way to feed knowledge and innovation systems.
Consequently, this makes it more complex to define the success of doctoral education, which leads to the development of younger scholars and teachers for higher education. In Asia, as the development of doctoral education becomes more mature, yet there are also challenges and opportunities for future higher education depending on various global and social contexts. Therefore, studies and research focusing on the quality of doctoral education in Asia can bring us more insights to provide to the governments and universities for strategic planning.
Higher Education Evaluation and Development (HEED) is a scholarly refereed journal that aims to encourage research in higher education evaluation and development, raising the standard of evaluation research and sharing discoveries and insights worldwide.
As a full-English journal since 2016, HEED has been published online and open access through Emerald Publishing since 2017. It welcomes original papers, research findings, traditional qualitative studies, case studies, and reviews in the field of higher education evaluation and development. HEED also encourages young scholars to publish research papers.
Collaborating with the 1st HERA Doctoral Student Conference, HEED will organize a special issue dedicated to assisting postgraduate students in publishing their research studies and promoting the development of future researchers.
